Cowboys

The Cowboys are doing awesome. We attribute it to the fact that Drew told Miles Austin at the Denver game that we named our baby after him. He has been a star player ever game since!!! Miles is loving watching the games too.

Miles and Miles of fun...

After getting lots of rest time in at Allison's parents house we are in our new place in Salt Lake and Drew is all settled into his new job. He is doing fabulously already. We get to travel to Boise for his work, which is AWESOME!!! Our first wedding anniversary was Saturday, July 25th and we had a wonderful time reflecting on the last year. We had a really nice dinner at Barbacoa and watched some comedians perform. It has been a year packed full of challenges as well as happiness and we hope to have many more.

Our little swimmer--he was loving playing with aunt Erin and cousin Zeke

With great grandpa, Stanley and great grandma, Bobbie

With daddy

Laura took this picture for us in downtown Boise.

Here is a pic of our new pad --the kitchen is the best part. It is pretty small, but nice and cozy!

Change of Plans...

Just when we thought we had a plan, life had something different in mind for us. We are hanging out in Boise for a bit to restrategize. We plan to stick it out in UT as the job market is pretty good there and I love my teaching job. I'll post soon when Drew lands an awesome job!!!
Grandma Sherry and aunt Connie bought Miles some pics and I had to post them because he is cute as a button. He is currently smiling and doing little giggles, cooing like crazy, and growing incredibly fast (16 1/4 lbs @ 3 months.)

Miles Stanley born March 31, 2009 at 2:43 AM Mckay-Dee Hospital
He weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 20 inches long at birth
We arrived at the hospital around 11:30 that night and from there everything happened very quickly! The nurse was suprised at how quickly things progressed and our doc barely made it in time. He was healthy and very alert and wanted to stay awake through the night. Needless to say mom and dad got zero sleep and are still adjusting.

He is a very good baby and hardly ever cries unless he is getting his diaper changed. Watch out if you ever have that job--he has pooped and peed on his parents at least half a dozen times in the 5 days he has been home.

He had jaundice that progressed until Friday and we had to put him in a "billibed" around the clock-- it looks like a miniature tanning bed. We were really worried he would hate it, but he just laid in there with his baby goggles and snoozed under the warm lights. Thankfully, his last billiruben test for jaundice showed good progress and he doesn't have to lay in the bed anymore.

Last night he only woke up 3 times and I can't describe how much better I (Allison) feel today. Drew is back at work and bummed to not be here with Miles. He is already growing like a weed and is 8 lbs. 3 oz. at just under a week old. His little stump already fell off and he has an outie belly button like his mom. Other than that he looks like a mini version of his dad.
Here are some pics so far:
Yay for epidurals!
Still blue-- dad

and still a little blue baby

Finally got to hold him after they cleaned out his lungs.

Just like dad :)

On a break from the Billibed (in the background) I make this face a lot
Feed me!

Already thinking...

The Nursery

We have finally put up most of the decorations in Miles' nursery. I (Allison) have been fanatically planning since day one: exactly what I wanted it to look like, creating the little pieces to go up on the walls, and doing everything with a fairly non-existent budget. Drew's co-workers had to laugh at how early I made him take me to get all the essentials to make sure we were ready "just in case." Because of this, I tried to be patient with the hanging of non-essential decorations.

Friday afternoon we headed to the nursery to decide where everything would go on the wall. As I pointed out where things would go Drew immediately looked concerned. "Nothing can go above the crib," he said frantically. As two of the four walls are above the crib I was immediately upset. Drew researched the topic and found that many people recommend putting nothing above the crib in case of an earthquake. Utah is prone to earthquakes and although they don't happen often it isn't out of the question that we experience a sizeable one. The solution ended up being moving all furniture and relocating the wall hangings. We have some awesome soft fabric wall hangings that Drew's mom found, which will go up a little later this week.

The most interesting part of this whole experience was what Drew and I were able to learn about eachother as parents before Miles even arrives. Drew is already such a caring, protective father. He thinks so much about the things that he wants for Miles and like he proved when we designed the nursery he was so careful about his son's safety.

Check out the decorating we having done so far:

Sundance Film Festival

We had such a great time at the Sundance Film Festival today. We saw a documentary in the competition called William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe. It was about Kunstler the famous lawyer and was created by his two daughters. They did an amazing job of showing the metamorphosis he experienced throughout his lifetime as civil rights activist, father, and defender of some of the most hated criminals of his time.

The interesting thing was the strong inspirational message of the documentary. The sisters who created the film did a Q&A with thier mother and some of the people their father defended. the best part of that was seeing the man who Kunstler tried that defend that spent 7 years in prison for the Central Park murder only to be found completely innocent later. He was still so positive about life and performed a poem he wrote while in prison.

Drew and I haven't stopped talking about it all evening! I hope this movie becomes mainstreamed so that you can see it yourself. The Flix downtown often shows independent films like this one, so watch for it there. We are planning to attend another movie later this week from the dramatic competition and will let you know all about it.
